He makes me to lie down in green pastures. This verse should amaze you The Lord makes you to lie down. It seems that it must be a mistake at first sight. The Lord has to make us lie down in green pastures. Oh yes, He must, or we will continue to work and seek greener pastures and we will never be satisfied with what we have. If the Lord does not make us to lie down and rest in the realization that we are in the best and most secure pasture that we could possibly graze in, we will constantly stray further and further away from the one fold of the Great Shepherd. Do we not lie down because of some lack or deficit on the part our shepherd or the pasture that he has chosen for us to graze in? No, this could never be, because He is The Great Shepherd and not a hireling. His pasture is the best because it is the pasture that He has selected for us in electing love and providential care. Four legged sheep will not lie down when they are fearful, when they are tense, when they are aggravated and when they are hungry, likewise human sheep, the elect of God, will not rest until all of these areas are satisfied in the provision of the substitutionary death of  Lord  Jesus Christ for their sins. When the elect see their sin debt and the wrath of Almighty God paid for in the death of the atonement and redemption of their Lord Jesus Christ then lie down in truly green pastures, the which there is no other to be compared. But one can only truly rest in the finished and perfect work of Christ. Nothing can be added to nor taken from and result in the rest, the lying down of the sheep than this.
