                                                                  VICTORY

                                                                  by Elder Tim Brown

2 Corinthians 2:14 Now thanks be unto God, which always, causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savor of his knowledge by us in every place,

2 Corinthians 2:15 For we are unto God a sweet savor of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish.

2 Corinthians 2:16 To the one we are the savor of death unto death; and to the other the savor of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

2 Corinthians 2:17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

What a glorious truth for us to meditate upon the victory which we have been given in Christ. This victory that has been given to the elect of God is a final and complete victory as well as an active victory. We know according to doctrine that our victory is secured in Christ, but do we live the victory. We as believers must guard against the false defeat that the flesh and sin encourages us to entertain. For we have the testament of the Word of God that it is not up to us to know our triumph but God in His great mercy causes us to triumph in Christ. Although it is necessary that we know and believe according to doctrine that we are triumphant and victorious, it is just as necessary that we experience the triumph and victory as we are partakers in and of Christ. We are able to know the triumph for it is by God's will that we see the activity of triumph and victory in our lives as the evidence of Christ's life fills the earth as a sweet savor of life unto the elect and as a bitter savor unto death to the non-elect.

The presence of Christ's life, triumph, and victory is known to all whether they be the elect or non-elect. The elect receive the savor as a sweet aroma that moves the spirit within them to rejoice in the triumph of their King and Savior. God causeth us to triumph not because the victory is not complete, but because he has decreed to reveal himself in us through the knowledge of Christ that the existence of spiritual life in us, the life of Christ, is not held back by the senses of the body but oh the more so it permeates the existence of man. Depending upon your eternal estate the savor may be sweet as life a new or it may be as the unbearable stinch of death. Let us pay close attention to the active spiritual life and why it is made manifest UNTO God. Unto  is a very significant word for the Word of God does not say we do things unto ourselves, but on the contrary we do it unto our creator that He may be glorified in all things.

Brethren we must examine our life to search for evidence that the sweet savor of the life of Christ proceeds from us.Do we live our life unto God or are we repulsed by the servitude and dependence upon a Sovereign Lord as the world is? Are we ashamed to profess that we are unable to triumph and it is God who causeth us to triumph? Are we ashamed to profess that we are not sufficient for anything, and it is God who is sufficient for all. We live an active spiritual life not a dead spiritual life for our Christ is not a dead King but He is an active ruling King so we must be about the Lord's business if we truly are faithful receivers of the sweet aroma and savor of life. Let us speak in the sincerity of heart that Jesus is Lord and He is our resurrection and life that it may be manifested that we are of God for we speak of God.

Praise be to God that we are not left to conquer the enemy that we might have life, but thanks be to God that it is through Christ we have victory and it is by the work of God that we are caused to live and experience the triumph of Christ over sin and death. To God be the glory, great things he hath done.
