Thursday
He leads me beside the still waters. The good shepherd always leads his sheep to drink from and beside the still water. Running and turbulent water cause the sheep to become nervous and then they won’t drink. It is the goodness of the Great shepherd that he leads His flock beside still waters. These are not the rapids and the rushing of turbulent waters, but the deep and calm pools of still waters. Everything under the care of the Great Shepherd is peaceful and calm as He has met and defeated all enemies that we may face even the last and most dread enemy of all death. We all know how refreshing and cooling a cold glass of water is on a hot day. Here in the words of this verse we have the assurance that he that thirsts after righteousness shall be filled and he that drinks of this water will never thirst again. May we like the woman at the well always say Lord ever more give me this water that I thirst not again. As the hart pants after the water brook so pants my soul after You oh God. When we are parched with the dryness of the desert of life and it seems as if we must die for lack of a refreshing drink of water, then let us who are His sheep remember these words and know that we are in the care and keeping of the Great Shepherd Who delights to lead us beside still waters.
