"This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalms 118:24" THE GRAIN OF A MUSTARD SEED by Elder Lin Brown
Mat 23:14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.Mat 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.Mark 9:24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.Luke 17:6 And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you. These three verses speak of faith. I am sure that they are not speaking of false faith or hypocritical faith. You know what I mean when I say hypocritical faith, that is faith that is always boasting of its great assurances and lacks any trace of humility. It would never give assent to the validity of the prayer of the father in Mark who prayed Lord I believe; help my unbelief. Unbelief in a child of God-they would say, never. You and I know different don’t we? We know that there are times in our lives when we don’t have even the measure of a grain of a mustard seed faith. In case you didn’t know, that is very small, almost unseen to the physical eye. Our Lord said that is what we need to be able to do great acts and to conqueror the worst problems. So when we come to a problem that looks like a mountain all we need to have is the faith of a grain of mustard seed and we can say to the mountain be moved and it will be moved. We don’t have to go through a lot of begging and pleading, we just need the faith of a grain of mustard seed and we can conquer whatever it is that is troubling us. Remember faith (this faith we are talking about) cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. To have this faith as the grain of a mustard seed we must avail ourselves of the Word of God. It does not come to us in some magical way but comes when we are in the Word daily. All day long, as the doubts and temptations to unbelief come creeping in, go often to the Word and there you will find this little yet oh so powerful faith to meet all of life's trials. May the Lord give each of us that ability I pray.
