Seeking by Elder Shawn Reynolds In these times of peril and distress in our Nation, a child of God should be encouraged to seek the Father at all times. To seek God is to seek His will in all matters of your life. We will now look at some of the Holy Scriptures and how they instruct us to seek God. We will begin in Deuteronomy 4:29, where Moses writes, "But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul." What a wonderful gift of God, to be given the faith to seek him in all matters, but also the promise of finding Him, when the seeking is genuine and humble, with all of your being or essence (heart and soul). This is truly an example of faith being exercised to produce a righteous work from above. David had also been enlightened in the beginning of Psalm 63, when he says, "O God, thou art my God, early will I seek thee." Early in his life, early in his days, David was given the understanding and empowerment to seek God and His will for his life. We should hopefully see the emphasis on early, as it is most beneficial to a child of God to seek God early each and every day. The most notable scripture in seeking God is found in Matthew 6:33, where Jesus speaking says, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Thus, again we see the importance of seeking the Kingdom of God and His righteousness in its totality for our lives. We are given so much by our Creator, and we are reminded here again of God’s graciousness in giving to His people when they diligently and genuinely seek His will for their lives and His righteousness in all things. Every morning, we, in the hope of His inheritance, should be seeking God in all facets and matters in our lives. Whether it is at work, in teaching our children, in caring for our loved ones, or in our every day living, we should stop and take a ‘Selah’ and seek God’s will for our lives. As we have seen from these verses, God has promised to reveal himself to His children, when they are enabled to faithfully follow His commands. Paul writes in Colossians 3:1, "If ye be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God." By this verse again we see the importance of seeking those things (Godly precepts, wisdom, statutes and understanding) from above. This certainly gives us something to pray for, for the enabling of the Holy Spirit and a heart of wanting and desire to seek the things of the kingdom. In closing I would also like to remind you that there is someone else who is seeking. In I Peter 5:8, we are exhorted to "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." This verse too, shows the importance of diligently seeking the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and to give no place to the devil and his devices. My hope for the precious sheep of this flock, is that these passages minister to you and that the Holy Spirit would enable you to seek God in all things and at all times in your lives. |
