RIGHTEOUSNESS

by Elder Lin Brown

Mat 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Rom 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

Rom 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Rom 10:3&4 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

1 Cor. 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

2 Cor. 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Eph 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Eph 5:9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

Phil 1:11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

Phil 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

When we are told in Ephesians 6 to put on as part of the armour of God the breastplate of righteousness we are instructed to guard our hearts with the fact that we have been made righteous by the sovereign act of our Lord. We who were once dead in trespasses and sin have been made righteous through the sacrificial death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What we could not do and would not do, the Lord has done for us. Yes, I did say would not do, because left unto our selves we would never desire to be righteous. Does that seem strange to you? It shouldn’t, because if man is total depraved then he would never desire to be righteous on his own. You see what a great Savior we have. What we couldn’t and wouldn’t do, He has done for us. Praise be His Name.
