PEACE

by Elder Lin Brown

Psa 4:8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

Psa 23:5a Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:

Psa 29:11 The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.

Isa 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Isa 26:12 LORD, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Rom 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Rom 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

2 Th 3:16 Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.

Yesterday I heard a so-called Protestant minister, while standing on the site of ground zero in New York, say that he was going to preach that God had nothing to do with 9/11 and this happened as the result of the freewill of man exercising itself to evil. He went on to say that God was the first one to cry over the tragedy. As the clergy of this country and the leadership of this country continue to ignore and excuse the Lord from this tragedy as they refer to it, can there be any peace? The verses that I have sighted above tell us that the people of God enjoy peace in the very midst of trouble, because peace always comes from God and not from the circumstances. I could have filled up pages of verses on this word, peace, as it is part of the major benediction of the apostles,- Grace and peace be unto you in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ or some form of that statement. The Psalmist of old told us that the Lord has prepared a table for us in the presence of our enemies. In other words while our enemies do their worse we feast in the peace that only the Lord can provide. We can go to bed at night in peace and wake in the morning in peace. What we took for granted and presumptuously thought was our right as an American to live in peace and safety in our free land has now become a cherished treasure that we value most highly. The child of God knows that if he is to have any peace it must come from the Lord and He alone. Isn’t it wonderful to know that the very thing we need the most is the very thing that the Lord rejoices to give to His children? We can’t help but note that the children of the world can live in peace also, but it is a false peace. Jesus said that He gave peace to His people not as the world gave to its people. His peace is not a false peace, that rest itself not in the purpose of God , but in the pronouncements of man, but it is a steadfast unmovable faith in the One who performs everything after the counsel of His own will. May the Lord lead you to the verses that under the Holy Spirit’s enlightenment cause you to see that great peace belongs to them whose minds are fixed upon The Lord.
