                                    News, Tidings, and Reports

                                                               by Elder Lin Brown

Prov 25:25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

Num 13:32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

Exo 33:4 And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments.

1 Sam 11:4-6 Then came the messengers to Gibeah of Saul, and told the tidings in the ears of the people: and all the people lifted up their voices, and wept. And, behold, Saul came after the herd out of the field; and Saul said, What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of the men of Jabesh. And the spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly.

Psa 112:4-8 Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous. A good man showeth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion. Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD. His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.

Jer 49:23&24 Concerning Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad: for they have heard evil tidings: they are fainthearted; there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet. Damascus is waxed feeble, and turneth herself to flee, and fear hath seized on her: anguish and sorrows have taken her, as a woman in travail.

Jer 50:43 The king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble: anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail.

Ezek 21:7 And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt answer, For the tidings; because it cometh: and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall faint, and all knees shall be weak as water: behold, it cometh, and shall be brought to pass, saith the Lord GOD.

Dan 11:44 But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.

As we hear have new terrorist plots that may threaten our peace once again we are once again driven to the Scriptures to find the answers for the sudden fear that spreads over each of us. Just think just the very mention of some words spread fear in our lives and upset the peace that we took for granted just a few weeks ago. Words which now bring fear just a short time ago seemed to be the farthest thing from reality and seemed to be only for film and TV. Regardless of all of this, however, it is reality now. We must cope with such horrors as the threat of biochemical weapons, weapons of mass destruction, and yes, even nuclear weapons. Right now they are nothing more than reports and warnings - in Biblical language -tidings. We can’t stop them from coming, but we can fight them spiritually. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him (Isa 59:19). Our weapons are mighty to the pulling down of strongholds and no weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD (Isa 54:17). All of our defense must be by the faith of God’s elect in the All Sovereign and Living and True God. We read many times in the Scriptures about those who are the false gods of the heathen and they are each time described as having eyes to see but see not, ears to hear but hear not, a mouth to speak but speak not and that they who make them are like them. In other words the god they profess is as dead as they are, but our God is Living and True God. Doesn’t it make more sense to put our faith in Him and not in the tidings of the power of another. Once again as many times before I encourage you to read the words of Scripture and pray the Lord quicken them to your understanding and grant you faith to trust in what they have to say rather than in the reports and news that comes to us from those who know not our God. As you read the verses above you will see the power of bad tidings. I bring to you good tidings of great joy, our God is over all of His creation and He has done whatsoever He pleased in the habitants of heaven and in the armies of earth.
