The Lord is my shepherd.

Wonder of wonder the Lord is my shepherd, not another but the Lord Himself.  Who is this lord spoken of here? Is he another of those lords or princes of the church so-called by the decree of man? Is he just another among many, such as lord Buddha, or lord Krishna?  Perhaps he is of equal standing with one such as Allah, or the pantheon of paganism.  No, a thousand times no! This One is The Lord. The One Who is truly Lord indeed, beside Whom there is no other. He is One who will not share His glory with any of the gods of man. He is the Lord, the eternal Son of the Father by Whom and at His word the worlds were brought into being out of nothingness.  He is the complete and absolute Savior of His people from the foundation of the world. The books of all of the ages could not contain all of the glories of this One who is the Great Shepherd. The cry of triumph and satisfaction of an elect sheep of God is The Lord is my shepherd. Again, it must be said what a marvelous statement it is to proclaim the Lord is my shepherd!  At the very outset of the Twenty-Third Psalm, the words, the Lord is my shepherd, are complete summing up all the great care and worth of the Great Shepherd and the dependence upon Him by His elect sheep.
