Praise ye the LORD.Psa 119:76 Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.Psa 119:132 Look thou upon me, and be merciful unto me, as thou usest to do unto those that love thy name.Lam 3:22 It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.Hab 3:2 O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.Luke 6:36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.Luke 18:13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. This group of Scriptures remind us of a truth that we are prone to forget quite often and that is that the Living God is the God of all comfort and mercy to His people. Mercy is in fact one of the attributes of God. It was the thing that the psalmist David most desired when he was being attacked or when he had fallen into some sin that he knew was against the holiness of God. It was the one ground in which the publican felt he could approach the Living God. He dared not bring any thought of his worthiness when he came to petition God. The writer of Hebrews informs us of our glorious liberty and privilege in Christ Jesus when he says let us come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy. Throughout the Word of God we are reminded over and over what a cherished grace mercy is for the children of the Lord. Habakkuk pleaded with the Lord to remember mercy in the midst of wrath. How fitting for our time in history that we need to pray to the Lord in the wrath that surrounds us daily please don’t forget to have mercy on Thy children. Jeremiah says that it is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed. Just think, this verse says that it is only because of the Lord’s mercy that we are not consumed, that is why we are not overcome by the world, the flesh, or the devil. I am very thankful that the Lord is a merciful God because if He wasn’t. I would have long ago been consumed. Let us all join in praise and often run to the refuge of the God Who delights to show mercy. |
