                                                    The Living God

                                                                   by Elder Lin Brown

Is it possible for one to worship a god who does not control all things and for one to worship the God who does control all things and they still be worshipping the one and same true God? Are an elephant and a zebra the same creature? Can you be worshipping a Jesus who died to save all men and give them a chance to be saved if they are only willing and someone else worships the Jesus who really does save His people from their sins? You see the big issue is, are you believing in and worshipping the God of the Bible or are you believing in and worshipping a mental idol-a god who exists only in your own mind and is whatever you want to make him to be? Jesus said in John 17:3 that to know the True God is life eternal. That must mean if you only know this god that you have created in your own mind then you don’t have eternal life and you are still dead in trespasses and sin.

As stated above, to know the True God of the Bible is to own Him as the absolute sovereign of everything,, of things below the earth, on the earth, and above the earth, of things past, present, and future, of things spiritual and material. Also, to believe in the True Jesus Christ is to believe that He is eternal God clothed in the likeness of human flesh, the only begotten Son of the Father, and the real and actual and not a potential Savior of His people. To believe in the true Holy Spirit is to believe that He is the third person of the Trinity, the sovereign God who regenerates, indwells, sanctifies, and glorifies, the elect people of God and them only. To know the True God is to know the God who has in absolute sovereignty chosen a people before the foundation of the world to be saved and also has in absolute sovereignty before the foundation of the world chosen a people to be reprobated.

We unashamedly proclaim that this and this only is the True God to Whom to know is life eternal. Are there those who don’t know such a God now who will know Him in the future? To be completely Scriptural we must answer in the affirmative and also to be honest we must answer in the affirmative , because we know from our own experience that there was a time, even though we were professing Christians when we didn’t know this God. Paul said he had a past time when he hated the people of this faith so much that he went about bringing them to the religious justice of the Jews and thought he did God a favor when he did so. This he called a zeal without knowledge. He said this lack of knowledge caused him to be an injurious and murderous person. But we know that later in life Paul became an able defender of the faith that espoused this Sovereign God. He indicated in one of his epistles that he recognized that his readers had a past life, but he said they turned to God from idols to worship the Living and True God. This is what must happen and will happen in the time when it will please God to reveal His Son in the one who is the object of His grace. Remember that "My sheep hear My voice and another they will not follow, but they will follow Me." This is the Word of God and no matter how sympathetic we might be to one who does not believe in the God of the Bible, he remains still an idol worshipper and must be turned to the Living and True God.
