Did you know . . .

 

that in 1892, the United States Supreme Court ruled, "Our laws and our institutions must necessarily be based upon the teaching of the redeemer of mankind.  It is impossible that it should be otherwise;  and in this sense and to the extent, our  civilization and our institution are emphatically Christian."

that the Mayflower Compact drafted in 1620 states, ". . . having undertaken for the glory of God and advancement of the Christian faith, . . . a voyage to plant the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia; . . . covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil body politic . . .

that the New England Confederation of 1643 said, ""Whereas we all came into these parts of America with one and the same end and aim, namely, to advance the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ and to enjoy the liberties of the Gospel in purity with peace;

that Patrick Henry said, "it cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here."

that is 1642, the Harvard Rules stated:  "Let every student be plainly instructed, and earnestly pressed to consider well, the main end of his life and studies is to know God and Jesus Christ which is eternal life."

that the Father of our country and first president said, "It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.  Do not ever let anyone claim to be a true American patriot if they ever attempt to separate religion from politics."

that in his proclamation of the first National Day of Thanksgiving, George Washington said, "it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of almighty God, to obey His Will, to be grateful for His benefits and humbly to implore His protection and favor."

that Ben Franklin said, "atheism was unknown; infidelity rare and secret; so that persons may live to a great old age in this country without having their piety shocked by meeting with either an atheist or an infidel."

that John Jay, the first Supreme Court Justice stated:  "It is to be regretted, but so I believe the fact to be, that except the Bible there is not a true history in the world."

that Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence, "and for the support of this Declaration with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honour."

that Noah Webster, the author of the first American Dictionary said, "The moral principles and precepts contained in the Scripture ought to form the bases of all our civil Constitutions and law."

that President Andrew Jackson proclaimed, "The Bible is the rock on which this Republic rests."

that the Ten Commandments hang over the head of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court

that the words "In God We Trust" appears in the House and Senate Chambers

that in the nation's library, the words chosen by President Eliot of Harvard state "He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth God require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God."  Micah 6:8
