Freedom by Elder Lin Brown John 8:7,32,&36 For he that is dead is freed from sin. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.Rom 6:18&22 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.Rom 8:1&2 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.1 Cor 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.1 Cor 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.Gal 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.Freedom is one of those commodities that we have always enjoyed in our country in one degree or another. In the past decade we saw some of the freedoms that we thought were our inalienable rights slipping away and succumbing to subversive laws and bills. Americans have always regarded themselves (I mean mainstream America -not the special interest groups) as a free people. Oddly enough, even under the oppressive hand of Pax Romana the Jews considered themselves to be a free people. Both of these notions go to show us that the world can be deluded into thinking that they are free when in actuality they are not. Today among the youth of the world who refer to themselves as generation X, the cry for anarchy grows louder and louder. Anarchy is the idea that to be really and truly free you must be limited by no law whatsoever. To many freedom means they can do whatever they want to do. To some Christians they think that they are free from sin and all responsibility. If one would look in his Bible he would see that we are free from the rule of sin but we are bond-slaves to the Lord Jesus Christ. Just look at the above quoted verses and you will see that the child of God is free only in Christ Jesus. The apostle Paul encourages all of the children of God to stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ hat made us free. He says in another place that all things are lawful unto him but he will not be brought into bondage to anything. To be in bondage to anything other than Christ is not real freedom. It is only through and in Christ that man is truly and genuinely free. Therefore one does not have to be an American to know true freedom, in fact most Americans think they are free because they are Americans, but are actually in the worst bondage of all-that of sin. A Russian, or Chinese, or yes, even people of Afghanistan can be free in Christ. It is not a country or a government or an ideology that makes you free. Claiming autonomous rule over your own life and destiny does not make you free. Only Christ can make you free and if He makes you free you are free indeed.
