CHRISTIAN LIBERTY?

by Elder Tim Brown

Galatians 4:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

What a wonderful exhorting put forth to the children of God. We are called and commanded to recognize, live, and stand in the liberty that is so precious to a believer. We are free from sin. Sin has no more reign over us because we have freedom in Christ Jesus.  If you are in the body of Christ then there is no sin and we live in true spiritual liberty. So if sin is present does this mean that you are not in Christ since Christ has no sin since and it is evident that we do. God forbid, a believer is always in Christ or never was. The conflict a child of God has upon this earth is that they are constantly being pulled to and fro by the old man, the flesh, from the new man, spiritual. Liberty means we are free from something, what we are free from is sin. Many abuse this and believe since they are free then what is the harm to continue in sin. Yet the error is not knowing that the actions of sin and walking after the world is walking according to those who are in bondage. but it is worse for the Believer. The world is ignorant of its bondage and really has no concern for it, but a believer who is walking after the flesh is thrown under the shadow of the law once again, as the guilt, torment, and the death becomes evident all over again. The flesh would like nothing better than to return to its wallowing hole of sin where it pleases itself in the slothful pleasure of self indulgence away from the righteousness of God. Where sin is the yoke of bondage is as well.

Paul calls us to stand fast, meaning to make haste don't slumber. Know your liberty by meditating upon God and salvation that has been delivered although so unworthy by the blood of His Son. A spiritual man has been given life a new. They take pleasure in the law of God and obeying him. Don't lose sight of obedience in works because we fear the Armininan way, but it is the way of the believers counterfeited and distorted by the free-willers of the day, for the law of God is written upon our hearts as we have been made able to do and obey in Christ Jesus for the evidence of God's work not our own. There is no liberty where there is an abounding of Sin. So brethren pray unto God that you are not lead into temptation and are delivered from evil that you sin not,  so that the Liberty of Christ can dwell among you. Do not abuse the liberty that was given to you at such a great price but nurture the faith and the spirit within like a newborn babe that it may grow faithful and true unto the gospel of Christ. Place yourself before the Word as you have been made free and able because Greater is He that is in You than He that is in the World.

Praise be to God forever and ever, Amen.
